After reading my teammates weblogs I noticed that some our interests are quite similar when it comes to learning new things. For example Gym411 is really into living an active, healthy lifestyle. Spicynoodlesoup has a new found interest in learning how to maintain his vehicle, and finally Ninjacook had an interest in wildlife. All of these interests are the same interests I have, and consider this to be a good omen when it comes to working in teams. What really put it over the top for me though were these guys’ comments on nexting, these guys’ work ethic and styles of working were also very similar to my own. For example although gym411 had some bad experiences with teamwork in the past, he is focused on creating a more structured ethic when it comes to teamwork. This is specified in his comments as: “Being open with others will in fact make others be open with you, and thus benefit the relationship and strengthen it as well (by building trust). In a friendship speaking about past and current experiences can strengthen a relationship, but when working in teams one must speak on the current situation and the feelings that arise from it.” Ninjacook mentions that he believes that “it’s important to be mindful of the concepts discussed in all the various readings because we are all making impressions on each other and hopefully collaborating together in the process.” Finally Spicynoodlesoup suggest that “when trying to make people understand my perspective, I have to communicate my whole message, which consists of my observations, thoughts, feelings, and needs. If I communicate a partial or contaminated message to my group members, they might become confused and we will not make it to the next step.” I believe in all of these work styles when working as a team, it is also somewhat common sense that when communicating you need to be clear, communicate the whole message, and execute the communication well in order to get the message across and leave a good impression. Having these skills will encourage great productivity and chemistry amongst the group members, hence making our group a very fine team.

Fruitful Conversations makes the team

Interesting that you have emphasized similarities as occurred with the initial selections of who to comment to about the first introductions. The actual “label” you give the similarity is “learning new things,” but then you also confirm that the kinds of things being learned are also things you are interested in. What if you and some or all of your teammates really want to learn about different things? Can you all find a way to accommodate that?
The idea of structuring an ethic for teamwork is intriguing – especially if you watch to see how it plays out! And the emphasis on getting one’s own message across seems stronger (?) than making sure one gets the other people’s messages? And just what is, after all, this connection between communication and relationship?!
Great material to work with!
